Description
The entrance block to Kirkgate Station, built in 1854, features a long, near-symmetrical design in classical style and is constructed of ashlar. The centerpiece includes a raised, pedimented hall with a clock on the ground floor, flanked by tall, one-storey wings that have four bays and entablatures. The outer bays are highlighted by modillions at the cornice and tall parapets. There are lower three-window sections connecting to two-storey end pavilions, each with three windows and small outer sections beyond. The windows are treated in a classical style, with segmental pediments on the centerpiece and the outer bays of the central section. A central entrance is accessed by four stone steps, and there is an off-centre later canopy supported by cast iron brackets.
