Description
This headstone, dating from around 1801, is located approximately 5 metres north of the middle of the south boundary wall of the graveyard surrounding the Church of All Saints. Made of ashlar, the headstone features an arched top that is decoratively carved with foliage surrounding circular patterns. The lettering is well-preserved. It commemorates Sarah, the wife of Joseph Roberts of Calverley-Bridge, who died on 21st June 1801 at the age of 37. The inscription includes a poignant verse: "Why do ye mourn departing Friends? Or shake at Death's alarms? Tis but the Voice that Jesus sends To call me to his Arms."
