Description
The Gothic Temple, located approximately 370 metres south of Bramham Park House, is a summer house and water tower built in the 18th century. Constructed from magnesian limestone ashlar, it features an octagonal plan and appears to have two storeys. The building is characterized by buttresses at the corners and two-centred arched doorways on the east and west sides. Flanking these doorways are two-centred arched sash windows, which do not appear on the north and south sides. All openings have glazing bars that intersect at the head and feature diamond junctions. At the upper level, there are circular windows with radial glazing bars set within spherical triangles, along with a string course above, a prominent moulded cornice, and ogee-shaped battlements that are pierced with trefoils. Inside, the temple has Gothic panels formed by slender shafts with foliated decoration. The north and south sides contain tall arched mirrors that replace windows and feature glazing bars similar to those on the exterior. The roof houses a cistern that served as a water tower for the house before the mains water system was introduced.
