Description
No. 31 Great George Street is a pair of shops built in the mid-19th century. The building features white painted brick and has a slate roof with rendered end stacks positioned forward of the ridge. It stands two stories tall and has three windows, situated on a corner site with one additional window facing Oxford Place. The corner shop entrance is flanked by plate-glass windows set in pilastered surrounds. The central recessed shop doorway has a panelled door with a margin-glazed overlight, also in a pilastered surround, and there is a shop door and window with a fascia bracket to the right. The first-floor plate-glass sashes have stone sills and rubbed brick flat arches. This building is part of the initial development at the corner of Oxford Place and Great George Street, constructed between 1850 and 1866, likely during the time the Infirmary was being built. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
