Description

Quarry Hill Bridge is a railway bridge built in 1847 for the York and North Midland Railway Company. It is constructed from rock-faced gritstone with a brick soffit. The bridge features a single-span, skew-arched design that allows a lane to pass over a disused railway cutting. The segmental arch has voussoirs that align with the courses springing from the soffit impost band. The end piers are set forward and connected by a nosed ashlar band, which is located beneath a more deeply coursed parapet topped with weathered ashlar copings. The bridge remains unaltered and is original to the Church Fenton - Spofforth line, which opened on 10th August 1847 and was linked to Harrogate the following year.
