Description
Balks House is a late 18th-century house that has been converted into flats and a nursery. It features a red brick exterior and a stone slate roof. The front has a low-pitched gable that is designed to look like a pediment, which includes a circular window in the tympanum and decorative sham timber-framing. The building is two storeys high and five windows wide, with sash windows that do not have glazing bars, plain lintels, and a sill band at the first floor. The central doorway is framed by Tuscan three-quarter columns that support a pediment, and it has a semicircular fanlight with glazing bars above a panelled door. The interior has not been inspected.
