Description
This building is a cottage attached to the rear of Number 5, which is part of the premises of Messrs Maddleys. It dates from the late 17th century and is currently used as a store and showroom. The structure is made of thin coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and has two storeys. It features a two-cell central-entry plan with quoins. The Tudor-arched doorway has tie-stone jambs and a stop-chamfered cyma-moulded surround that extends across the lintel to form spandrels. There are five-light double-chamfered mullion windows with almost square reveals on either side, and a four-light window above, while the windows in the second cell are blocked. A large stepped external end-stack on the left has been renewed in brick above the ridge level. The interior has been largely remodelled for its current use.
