Description
Nos 1 and 2 Tannery Yard is an industrial building and former cottage, dating from around 1800, and is now partly used for storage. The structure is built of thin-coursed rubble, with the cottage section partly rendered, and features a modern concrete-tile roof. It has three storeys, with the cottage being two storeys tall. The building is L-shaped, with the gable end facing to the right and consisting of one block with three bays. It has quoins and flat-faced mullion windows, with one light on the ground floor and two lights above. To the left, there are two bays with two-light flat-faced mullioned windows. The north elevation, which faces into the yard, shows the cottage with a doorway that has monolithic jambs to the left of a single-light window, and a three-light window above. There are no stacks present. The left return of the industrial building features windows similar to those on the gable front, along with some inserted doorways. The name of the yard suggests that leather-working activities occurred at this location.
