Description
The entrance gateway to the Friends' Meeting House, along with its attached front wall, is likely from the 18th century and has been altered over time. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and features iron gates and a lamp-holder. The wall stands approximately 2.5 metres high and has rounded coping with quadrantal corners at the ends. The gateway is centrally located, with a moulded surround and a straight lintel that forms a flat arch, where the wall's coping ramps up. The later gates are made of hooped iron with dog-bars. The lamp-holder, made of wrought iron, is situated on the lintel and is designed with arched cresting and large scrolls, supporting a central lamp housing. This structure is included for its group value.
