Description

A pair of cottages dating from the mid to late 18th century, and subsequently altered. They are constructed of coursed squared sandstone with quoins, and have a stone slate roof. The rectangular double-depth plan is evident in the two storeys and single bay of each cottage. Plain doorways are located close to the outer corners, each featuring a large rectangular lintel. Each cottage has a single window to each floor, all with two large lights, flat-faced flush mullions, and plain surrounds; the windows to No. 7 have modern ornamental shutters. A chimney is located in the centre of the ridge, and the gables have copings with kneelers. The interiors have been altered, with reports indicating that the upper floors were formerly interconnected weaving shops, possibly powered by intermittent water, with marks of a fly-wheel said to survive in No. 6.
