Description

The icehouse located in the Wilderness to the east of the former kitchen garden at Parlington Estate is a former icehouse for Parlington Hall, likely built in the late 18th century.

Constructed from brick and limestone, the icehouse is set into an earth mound and is mostly below ground level. It features a large circular plan and a domed roof, with a depth that remains uncertain due to the base being filled with rubble. The south-east facing entrance opening is angled and covered by a modern metal grille, which has an ashlar surround and is flanked by walls made of coursed limestone and brick.
