Description
The churchyard wall and gateway, located approximately 10 metres west of Mill Hill Chapel, date from the mid-19th century and have undergone later alterations. The wall is constructed of coursed squared and carved gritstone and has an overall length of about 50 metres. The archway, situated opposite the west entrance to Mill Hill Chapel, features a pointed chamfered arch with a hoodmould beneath a steep gable. The flanking walls include pierced cusping to the balustrade. The wall slopes down with the ground and has an opening for access to a shopping precinct at the south end. A fragment of the wall that once extended the full length of the Park Row frontage is depicted on the first series Ordnance Survey 1:500 maps. This structure is included for its group value.
