Description

A row of five estate worker's cottages dating from the early 19th century, likely designed by Peter Atkinson (of York) based on plans by John Carr for Edward Lascelles, 1st Earl of Harewood. The cottages consist of five single cells, each with two floors and a double-depth layout. There are ten first-floor windows in total. The front elevations feature an ashlar plinth and quoins. Doorways, located in bays 2, 3, 5, and 7, have raised, monolithic jambs and overlights. The windows are 12-pane sashes with smaller 9-pane sashes above, although bays 8-10 have been altered to fixed lights, all with raised surrounds. An ashlar eaves band runs along the top of the building. The roof is hipped, with five ashlar stacks positioned along the rear-pitch. On the right-hand return, a tall stairwindow is situated under the doorway for number 91.
