Description

Nos. 10 and 12 Dock Street is a building that may have originally served as a warehouse before becoming a sailors' chapel. It dates from the mid to late 18th century, with a change of use recorded by 1831. The structure is made of brick and is rendered, with a roof that is not visible and a rebuilt stack on the left side. It stands three storeys tall and features three windows across its front.

The original windows are located in the centre and on the left, showcasing plain architraves, keyblocks, and moulded sills. These windows are sashes with glazing bars, and the top floor has margin lights in the centre. The windows on the right side appear to have been enlarged or newly inserted. There are two entrances on the left; No. 12 has a keyblock above, and both entrances have overlights. A shop window with a 20th-century surround is present, with a keyblock remaining above it. There is also a wide window with a header basket arch on the upper floor at the rear.

The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of a row in Simpson's Fold as shown in a 1770 plan, and its similar architectural features suggest it was connected to No. 8. The left entrance may have led to a passageway that provided access to a rear yard. The Sailors' Chapel indicated on the 1831 map likely occupied only a portion of this building.
