Description

The Adelphi Public House is a public house built between 1897 and 1898, located on Hunslet Road in Leeds. It features polished granite cladding on the ground floor, with red brick and ashlar detailing above, and is topped with a slate roof and a parapet that includes two moulded stacks. Designed in the Jacobethan style, the building stands three storeys tall with attics and occupies a corner site, showcasing ten first-floor windows that are plate-glass sashes, some of which are paired. The entrance on Hunslet Road has glazed double doors flanked by paired attached columns that support a segmental pediment, above which is a three-light window and the name 'ADELPHI' displayed in a projecting bay leading up to an ornate dormer window. The Dock Street facade features similar architectural details but includes a narrow doorway to the left of the pedimented window.

Inside, the ground floor has a foyer with four rooms branching off, and an ornate staircase that leads to first-floor meeting rooms. The large public bar to the left of the entrance has an inserted partition from around 1980. Original features within the pub include tiled floors, mahogany and etched glass doors, the original bar back, original tiling, overmantels, and furnishings.
