Description
Number 27 is a house, now used as offices, with area railings, built around 1797 and altered in the 19th century. It was designed by carpenter John Cordingley. The building is made of red brick with stone details and has a slate roof, along with wrought-iron railings. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and features three first-floor windows. There are steps leading up to the entrance on the left, which has a stone surround with Tuscan three-quarter columns, a heavy entablature, and a fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. The windows are sash style, with stone sills and wedge lintels, and there is a sill band on the first floor. At the rear, there is a bay window. Inside, there is a staircase with slender turned balusters and a moulded handrail. The railings have bars topped with leaf finials. Number 27 is part of a row of houses, likely all designed by John Cordingley, built by 1806 as part of the development of land leased by the Wilson estate for merchant housing.
