Description

The gateway and boundary wall located south-west of Mansion House, formerly known as Gledhow Grove, dates back to around 1835. It is likely designed by John Clark for John Hives. The structure is made of ashlar and coursed squared gritstone, featuring wrought-iron gates. The double gates are adorned with spearhead finials and circular motifs, while the piers create flanking pedestrian archways that include niches and pedimented caps, along with a frieze decorated with paterae. The wall extends approximately 160 meters to the north and stands about 2 meters high, leading to a stables gateway that has monolithic tapering piers topped with flat segmental faced capstones. This wall was originally built as a boundary for Gledhow Grove, which is now known as Weetwood Grove and Weetwood Grange.
