Description
St Martin's Institute is a church institute built in 1902 by Percy Robinson. It is constructed of coursed rock-faced gritstone with ashlar details and has a slate roof. The building is two storeys tall and has seven bays, designed in the Gothic Revival style. It features a large gabled structure with a single-storey entrance porch that has three arches and a crenellated parapet. The hall window is decorated with tracery and has a hoodmould, flanked by what are likely stair turrets that have paired lights and stepped parapets topped with pyramid roofs. The left and right sides of the building have large three-light segmental-arched windows with transoms and mullions, along with leaded panes above three-light lower ground-floor windows. There are service rooms at the rear. The interior has not been inspected but is said to include a ballroom with a stage and balcony, as well as two lower halls.
