Description
Smeaton House Farmhouse, built in the 18th century, is a farmhouse with attached walls located on Swillington Lane in Swillington. The building is made of handmade brick and features a stone slate roof. It has a rectangular double-depth plan, standing two storeys high with five symmetrical bays. The central doorway, which is accessed by six steps, has a moulded architrave and a three-pane overlight above it. The ground floor has four-pane sashed windows with cambered brick heads, while the first floor features twelve-pane sashed windows. The roof is steeply pitched and hipped, with two chimneys located at each end of the building. There are screen walls that continue flush with the front on both sides; the left side has a ramp leading to the returned end, and the right side includes a doorway. At the rear, there is a short single-storey service wing. Inside, the farmhouse has a dog-legged staircase with slim turned balusters and cellars.
