Description
This barn, located approximately 10 meters east of East Ardsley Old Hall, dates from the late 16th century and is encased in stone, likely from the early 18th century. It features rubble brought to course, roughly dressed quoins, and a stone slate roof. The barn has three bays and a central cart-entry with doors that are hung on original posts. On either side of the entry, there are rectangular breather holes.
Inside, the barn showcases post-and-truss construction with king-post trusses that include single angle struts and straight braces connecting to the tie-beam and ridge. It has a single trenched purlin and one-piece rafters extending from the ridge to the wall plate, which shows mortices on the soffit, indicating the presence of an earlier timber-framed wall. The closing truss is flush with the outside wall. Overall, the barn retains a remarkably complete timber-framed interior.
