Description
Stocks Hill Pump and raised pavement is a late 18th-century structure located on Lower Town Street in Bramley. It features a retaining wall that supports a raised pavement, measuring approximately 3 meters high and 30 meters long. The wall is constructed of coursed gritstone, with ashlar arches and a stone trough. At each end of the wall, there are rusticated ashlar pilasters. The wall includes segmental-arched niches, also made of rusticated ashlar, and is topped with stone coping and plain railings. One of the arches contains a drinking trough, while the other holds the remains of a cast-iron pump, which features a lion mask, handle, and tray. This pump, along with the old well, served as the original water supply for Bramley.
