Description

99-101 The Avenue is a row of three estate worker's houses built in the early 19th century, likely designed by Peter Atkinson of York based on a plan by John Carr for Edward Lascelles, the 1st Earl of Harewood. The houses are constructed from hammer-dressed stone and feature a stone slate roof. Each house is a double-depth, two-cell structure with two storeys and nine first-floor windows. They have an ashlar plinth and quoins. Each house includes a doorway with an overlight and monolithic jambs on plinths, along with windows above and to either side that have flush plain-stone surrounds and projecting sills, although the glazing has been altered to casements. An ashlar eaves band runs along the top, and the hipped roof is topped with four ashlar ridge stacks, plus one on the side of the left hip.
