Description
This is a barn located approximately 15 meters north-east of Clumpcliffe Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with some alterations. It features a timber frame and walls made of handmade brick in stretcher bond, topped with a stone slate roof. The barn has five bays arranged on a north-south axis. The west side is covered by modern cattle sheds, while the east side includes a square-headed wagon doorway in the center bay (with altered doors) and triangular breathers at three levels. The north gable has a very large inserted wagon doorway with a steel lintel and triangular breathers above.
Inside, there are six post-and-truss frames, including one at each gable end. The posts rest on stone stylobates, with braces connecting to the aisle plates and tie-beams. The roof features king-post trusses with V-struts.
