Description
The Granary is a detached house located on Station Road in Shepley. It dates back to the early 17th century and has undergone extensive recent alterations that are in keeping with its character. The building is constructed from hammer dressed stone and features quoins, with a stone slate roof that has chamfered gable copings. It has a central ashlar stack with a later addition on top. The house is two storeys high and has a projecting gabled wing to the left, creating an 'L'-shaped plan.
The windows include 2- and 3-light double chamfered designs, many of which have been altered or replaced, but still maintain the overall style. Drip-mould stops have been added to some windows. The main entrance, located on the right gable, features a deep lintel and a hood-mould. The cross wing has windows that have been altered, including a cross-window and a 2-light window in the apex, but the hood moulds remain original. The left gable has a 2-light window with pointed arched lights in the apex, while the rear of the building is rendered.
Inside, the parlour at the right end showcases stop-chamfered beams and reed-moulded joists, a very wide arched fireplace, and an internal doorway with an arched oak surround and reed-moulding.
