Description
The Church of St. Paul is a Gothic Revival church built in the Lancet style in 1848 by William Wallen, with the chancel added in 1868. It is constructed of hammer dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features an ornamental slate roof with raised copings on large squared kneelers. The church has a 7-bay nave with nook-shafted corners, a south porch, and a west bell-cote. The chancel consists of 2 bays.
The lancet windows are set in large square-headed recesses that include a corbel table. The porch has a moulded doorway, while the east window is a 3-light design with three trefoils in the head. The west window features three stepped lancets flanked by pairs of shallow buttresses. At the center of the gable, there is a mandorla-shaped window framed by the projecting base of the ashlar gabled bell-cote, which has recessed twin bell openings. Each corner of the church is nook-shafted. The interior has not been inspected.
