Description
Thornhill Hall Cottages are a pair of cottages dating from the 17th century or earlier, although they have been significantly altered in the 20th century. They are constructed from hammer-dressed stone and feature quoins. The cottages have a stone slate roof with later chimney stacks. They are two storeys high, with the ground floor set back to earth. The front facade includes three bays of casement windows and two entrances. The left cottage has an upper-cruck truss, which is also reputedly present in the right cottage. Inside, there is a principal rafter that is braced to a massive purlin over the cruck, and the tie-beam is truncated. Some studding can also be seen.
