Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of four houses, with two additional under dwellings, located on Manchester Road in Linthwaite. The buildings are constructed of hammer-dressed stone and have pitched stone slate roofs, with stone brackets supporting the gutters and gable copings. The south-east elevation features four entrances with stone surrounds, at numbers 719, 721, 723, and 725. The ground floor incorporates stone mullioned windows; number 719 has a four-light window, number 721 a two-light window, and numbers 723 and 725 each have a three-light window. On the first floor, numbers 719 and 721 feature a continuous twelve-light stone mullioned window, with several blocked sections creating a two-light window at number 721 and a four-light window at number 719. Numbers 723 and 725 have five-light and three-light windows respectively, with alterations evident at number 723 where two mullions have been removed and modern casements inserted. The earlier glazing with small panes is retained in numbers 719 and 721. The north-west elevation, which is three stories high, has four bays. The two bays on the left include a doorway near the centre, with a four-light stone mullioned window to the right and a three-light window (incorporating part of a blocked doorway) to the left. The first-floor level features two three-light stone mullioned windows. The original second-floor configuration was a continuous twelve-light stone mullioned window, but this has been altered with three lights blocked and one mullion removed. The two bays to the right are broadly similar to the left. A single-story extension is attached to the south-west gable.
