Description

The Longwood Railway Viaduct was built between 1845 and 1849, possibly by contractor Thomas Nicholson, who also worked on Stanedge Tunnel. The viaduct is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features ashlar imposts and bands, a parapet, and tapering piers. It has 20 round arches. This section of the railway line was officially opened on 1 August 1849.
