Description

Norman Terrace is a building from the 1890s, designed by architect Edgar Wood for the Sykes family, to whom he was related. It features hammer-dressed stone and a pitched stone slate roof with projecting eaves. The structure is two storeys high and has three ranges of three-light mullion-and-transom windows that are flush with the wall. These windows have casements, lead glazing bars, and iron fastenings, with each range topped by a gable, and the central range projecting forward. There are three doors, each consisting of two moulded panels and one glazed panel with lead glazing bars, topped by an oblong fanlight with lead glazing bars. The fanlight is set above a simple flat hood that is supported by ornamented iron studs, and it features a simple concave chamfer and a shaped Pennine lintel. Above each door, there is a two-light mullioned casement. Steps lead up to the doors, with retaining walls on the south sides and simple cast iron railings, some of which have urn finials.
