Description

The Beaumont Arms public house and the adjoining barns to the east are a public house with accompanying dwellings and two barns. The public house dates from the late 18th century but has been altered, while the rest of the structure is from the mid-19th century. It is built from hammer-dressed stone with quoins on the earlier part and features stone slate roofs. The building is two storeys high, with the earlier section on the west being L-shaped and later additions to the east. Most window and door openings have been altered or replaced, with current windows being single, two, and three-light casements and sashes, many of which have glazing bars. The later section to the east has five bays of sash windows, two of which are blind on the first floor, one displaying the coat of arms of the Beaumont family. There is a blocked doorway on the ground floor, and the building features gable copings on carved kneelers and a modillion eaves cornice. Two broad ashlar gable stacks have been reduced in height. The two barns to the east form an L-shape and each has very large segmental-headed opposed carriage entrances at the front and rear. High up on the front, each barn has two round, shuttered pitch-holes. The south gable also features gable copings and kneelers.
