Description

The bridge over the River Colne, located on Birkhouse Lane, was built in 1853 by contractor George Heywood. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features two segmental arches with cutwaters. A band runs along the structure, and there is a parapet. On the west side of the bridge, there is a panel that reads: "Erected conjointly by the surveyors of the Hamlet of Lockwood in Quarmby, the Board of Surveyors of Marsh Hamlet, Mr William Arnold, Birkhouse Boiler Works Lockwood, and Messrs J H G C Walker, Birkhouse Dyehouse Lockwood, Anno Domini 1853, George Heywood Contractor."
