Description

Nos 22 to 34 on John William Street is a mid-19th century building made of ashlar sandstone. It stands three storeys high with attics and features a modillioned eaves cornice. The parapet is adorned with regularly spaced pedimented piers. There are continuous sill bands on the first and second floors, with the first floor's band being moulded. The building has rusticated quoins and chamfered corners.

The ground floor facing John William Street consists mainly of modern shopfronts, except for the pilastraded bank front of No 22, which may be original. On the ground floor facing St Peter's Street, there are six round-arched sash windows with moulded voussoirs, keys, and a continuous moulded impost band. There are also double doors with eight diamond panels and a fanlight in a round arch, featuring moulded imposts and keystones, flanked by Tuscan pilasters that support a full entablature.

The first and second floors contain 13 ranges of sash windows on John William Street, eight on St Peter's Street, nine on Church Street, and one on each corner facing John William Street. All windows have moulded surrounds and sills supported by brackets. The windows on John William Street feature shouldered surrounds, and those on the first floor also have entablatures, with the sill brackets being console-shaped. Additionally, there is a decorative area on the St Peter's Street side, which includes very ornate cast iron railings.
