Description

Manor House, also known as Peel House, is a building from the mid to late 17th century that incorporates some timber framing. It is constructed of coursed rubble and features quoins. The stone slate roof has hollow chamfered gable copings and finials at the eaves and apexes. The house is two storeys high with a three-gabled facade that includes a continuous drip moulding over the ground floor windows. There are two doorways on the facade; one has moulded reveals while the other is chamfered. Each gable apex contains a blocked 2-light window with a hood mould. The ground floor features 8-light, 16-light, and 12-light mullioned and transomed double chamfered windows, while the first floor has 3, 4, and 5-light windows. The rear of the house has two gables with 3-light and 5-light double chamfered windows.

Inside, the parlour to the right has elaborate plasterwork on the ceiling, which is divided into four sections by a large beam over the chimney breast. The plastered soffit is decorated with paired griffons, and there is a plaster divide with similar detailing. Originally, each square section of the ceiling featured a lozenge design with a coat of arms, along with female figures representing the Celtic goddess of fecundity, although now only two squares remain complete. There are oak panelled cupboards to the right, and a possibly later panelled overmantle. In the central parlour, there is an arched stone fireplace with a panelled oak overmantle featuring lozenge and foliage decoration, along with stop-chamfered beams.
