Description
Birks is a house and barn built in 1736, constructed in a single range using hammer-dressed stone millstone grit. The building features quoins, a plinth, and a pitched stone slate roof with a coped west gable. It has a chimney with tabling and a moulded cap. The house is two storeys high.
On the south elevation of the house, there are two 4-light stone mullioned windows with double chamfers, although two of the mullions have been removed. Additionally, there is a 2-light stone mullioned window, also with double chamfers, from which one mullion has been removed. The ground floor includes a door with a massive lintel, set within a modern porch.
The barn's south elevation features a large uneven lintel over a partially blocked door, which bears the inscription "JMB 1776," related to the Bamford family. There is also a small doorway that is partially blocked. To the east side, there is a lean-to extension, and on the northwest elevation, there is another lean-to extension with a catslide roof and a 2-light stone mullioned window.
