Description

High Royd is a large, detached house dating to the late 18th century, with alterations and additions. The house is constructed of ashlar, with a hipped stone slate roof and substantial ashlar stacks, topped by a moulded eaves cornice. A north-western wing has a twin-hipped roof.

The south-east elevation features a central doorway surmounted by a fanlight and slender lights on either side, along with a two-light window above. Two-storey canted bays with hipped roofs flank the doorway, each featuring sash windows with a central mullion. An addition to the right, designed to be sympathetic to the original, incorporates a doorway with a semi-circular fanlight featuring radial glazing bars.

The south-west elevation is six bays wide. Large sash windows are present on the ground floor, while smaller casement windows with glazing bars are found on the first floor. A single window with glazing bars spans both floors in the second bay from the right. A 20th-century stone porch with a round arch provides access to the right-hand entrance, leading to stone stairs. Iron gates are set before the porch. Unremarkable 20th-century extensions are located to the north-west.
