Description
Northgate Mount is a large detached house built around 1820 for William Brooke, who lived from 1764 to 1846. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a slate roof that is hipped to the west. It has two storeys, with a first-floor sill band and a plinth. The house has ashlar stacks and gable copings, along with a moulded eaves cornice that includes a blocking course.
The entrance front, facing west, consists of three bays with sash windows that have glazing bars. There is a central porch supported by fluted columns with "Tower of the Winds" capitals, topped with a full dentilled entablature and a blocking course. The garden front, facing south, features a central single-storey canted bay and a two-storey canted bay to the right, with five sash windows on the first floor, all having glazing bars.
The interior is reported to include six-panel doors, panelled window shutters, and a staircase with a cast iron balustrade and shaped stone steps.
