Description

This is a row of early 19th-century cottages located on Green Edge, near Nettleton Hill. The cottages are constructed of hammer-dressed stone and have pitched stone slate roofs with coped gables. Stone brackets support the guttering. The properties are two storeys high. Numbers 10 and 12 share a continuous sill line on the first floor. Number 2 has modern casement windows. Number 4 features a ten-light stone mullioned window on the first floor, with four lights blocked, and a six-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor, with one light blocked. Number 6 has a six-light stone mullioned sash window on the first floor and a bipartite window on the ground floor. Number 8 has a seven-light stone mullioned window on the first floor and a four-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor. Number 10’s first-floor window is an eight-light stone mullioned design with two mullions removed, and the ground floor window is a five-light stone mullioned design, also with two mullions removed. Finally, Number 12 has an eight-light stone mullioned window on the first floor, with three lights blocked and one mullion removed, and a five-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor, with two mullions removed. The group value context of this listing is that it represents a good example of vernacular architecture from the early 19th century.
