Description
The retaining wall and boundary wall at the Royal Halifax Infirmary were built between 1892 and 1896. Constructed from rockfaced stone with ashlar dressings, the retaining wall is approximately 100 meters long and runs from the lodge (block 11) across the front of the administration block (04). The wall rises in height from left to right, following the slope of the site. It features chamfered coping topped with a coped balustrade, adorned with dice and ball finials. The boundary wall, located to the right, is about 80 meters long and fronts ward blocks 01 and 02. This wall also has chamfered coping that was formerly topped with a railing, along with coped square piers. There is a plain gateway at the right end.
