Description
The boundary wall to the northeast of the Royal Naval Hospital in Haslar dates from the mid-18th century and is constructed of red brick. This tall wall features buttresses and brick coping, enclosing the northeast corner of the hospital site. The wall was originally built to prevent convalescent seamen from deserting. Haslar was the first large hospital established by the navy. Although the wall only survives in sections throughout the site, the remaining part along the northeast side is significant, contributing to the layout and function of this exceptional and largely intact complex. In 1853, medical stores were constructed against its southwest elevation.
