Description

This is a row of cottages, likely dating to the late 18th century, with alterations made in the mid 19th century, particularly to the front facing the lane. The cottages are built of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. They are two storeys high and include quoins. The yard-facing facade originally had five bays, and the doorway to number 3 is positioned on the right-hand end, beyond a set of quoins. Most bays contain flat-faced mullioned windows with overlapping sills of four lights; however, two mullions have been removed from each window in the two bays furthest to the right. A doorway at number 7 has replaced a window in the second bay. The lane-facing facade has been altered to a Picturesque Tudor style, featuring seven bays with doorways in the first and fifth bays, incorporating moulded jambs and basket-headed lintels with hollowed spandrels. The windows on this facade are double-chamfered with arched lights and hollow spandrels, and have either two or three lights. Three stacks rise from the ridge, with those on the lane side treated as four joined octagonal flues.
