Description
This building is a farm structure located approximately 7 metres east of Dry Carr Farmhouse in Sowerby Bridge. It is likely a cross-wing to an earlier hall and dates from the late 17th century, with additions and alterations made in the early 18th and 19th centuries. The construction features thinly-coursed rubble and coursed squared stone, topped with a stone slate roof.
The building has two storeys and two bays, with the right bay being from the 17th century and made of coursed squared stone. The ends and between the bays have quoins. On the left side, there is a plain-stone-surround doorway in an added outshut, followed by a 3-light flat-faced mullion window with a blocked arched light to its right, and a former doorway. There is also a 3-light chamfered mullion window with a similar 2-light window above it. The right end features a quoined, shouldered, corniced external stack, while there is a partly-collapsed central ridge stack.
At the rear, there are traces of a central blocked, quoined doorway with a deep lintel and a blocked arched light to the first floor on the left. The right return has a 2-light window with a chamfered mullion to the right of the stack. The left return features a 3-light chamfered mullion window on the ground floor and a 3-light flat-faced mullion window above. Inside, there is one principal rafter roof truss and large-scantling purlins. The building was unoccupied and in a derelict state at the time of the resurvey.
