Description

A farmhouse dating from the 17th century, likely the early to mid-17th century, and altered and restored in the 20th century. The farmhouse comprises a main range of one storey and an attic, with two cells and a through-passage, alongside a two-storey bay on the left. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof. Quoins are present, and the windows are double-chamfered mullion windows. A gabled porch on the left of the right bay features a chamfered, quoined, Tudor-arched doorway with sunk spandrels, kneelers, ashlar coping, and a finial. Inside the porch are stone benches, and a similar doorway leads into the farmhouse. To the right of the porch is a renewed 6-light single-chamfered mullion window, and to the left a 2-light fire window, with a further 6-light double-chamfered mullion window beyond. A later chamfered light is situated at a higher level to the left. Three 20th-century dormers and a skylight are also present. A corniced ridge stack is located to the left of the centre. The left-hand bay has a 20th-century gabled porch concealing a plain stone surround to the doorway, and to its left, a 5-light (now 3-light) window with a hoodmould, over which stands a 20th-century window. An end stack is present on the left. At the rear, the main range features a gabled porch with a chamfered, quoined Tudor-arched doorway. To the left of the porch is a 2-light window with a renewed mullion, and to the right a blocked quoined doorway with a 2-light window (renewed mullion). The left-hand bay projects and has a 5-light (now 3-light) window with a hoodmould. The left return exhibits a first-floor window on the left, originally of 4 lights, now 3, under a hoodmould. The right return has two 2-light windows to both the ground floor and above. Inside, the through-passage has a chamfered, quoined doorway on the left leading into the main house body and a door with monolithic jambs on the right leading into a service room. The main house body contains a large fireplace with a deep, corbelled, segmental-arched monolithic lintel and a moulded cornice. The left room has a fireplace with a monolithic lintel, and the right-hand room above contains a small, low fireplace with a deep lintel.
