Description

Upper Quick Stavers Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the early 17th century. It is constructed of coursed squared stone and has a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of two bays, with a rear outshut added to the left bay and another added to the right gable. The entrance is located in the left gable.

On the northeast (garden) front, there are two windows on each floor, featuring chamfered surrounds and originally designed as two-lights. The right-hand ground floor window was replaced around 1985 with a two-light window that has round-arched lights. There is a straight joint between the main house and the outshut on the right, along with ashlar coping and a finial on the left gable. The building has stacks at the right end and at the center of the ridge.

At the rear, the added outshut on the left includes a door and a window, while a 20th-century conservatory is situated in the angle formed by the original outshut and the main range, though it is not of special interest. The left return features two chamfered doorways: one leads into the outshut on the right, which has a plain window opening, and the other leads into the house on the left. Each floor has a central five-light double-chamfered mullion window, with round-headed lights and sunk spandrels, and the mullions are hollow-moulded.

Inside, the left-hand room contains chamfered spine beams, while the right-hand room features reused spine beams and joists along with a later stone fireplace that has a deep lintel. There is a large scantling purlin in the outshut, and one stop-chamfered purlin is visible on the first floor, with others likely hidden.
