Description
The Nuns Grave is a Grade II listed site located in Brighouse, Kirklees. It features two table tombs that are surrounded by octagonal tapered stone columns topped with pointed caps, along with remains of iron railings. One of the tombs is a raised medieval grave slab that has an engraved crucifix. The other tomb consists of a much weathered stone slab that is bordered by 18th-century sides, which bear the inscription: "To Elizabeth de Stainton: late: Priores: of this: Hous: Sweet: Jesus: of: Nazareth: Grant: mercy." This information is documented in G. Hepworth's work, "Brighouse, its scenery and antiquities," published in Halifax in 1885.
