Description

A block of six back-to-back houses, now converted into three separate dwellings, was built in the early 19th century. The structure is constructed from coursed squared stone with a stone slate roof and is built into a hillside. The south front has three storeys overlooking the valley, while the road-facing side has two storeys. Each house has a single bay. The two leftmost houses, Nos. 4 and 3, retain their original features, including plain stone surrounds for a left-hand doorway and a three-light window above it. Each upper floor has a five-light window with plain stone surrounds and flat-faced mullions. The right-hand house, No. 5, has a later doorway and windows, potentially indicating an addition or conversion to that bay. The building features paired, plain gutter brackets on table bases, shaped kneelers, and coping along the roofline. End stacks project forward of the ridge, with one additional stack located between Nos. 4 and 3. The rear elevation of Nos. 3 and 4 is unaltered, displaying a stone slab porch and a three-light window alongside a five-light window above. No. 5’s rear has a later doorway and window to each floor, with the first-floor window breaking the table base. Gutter brackets and kneelers match the front, and a stack is located at the left end, projecting forward of the ridge.
