Description
Green Hill Manor is a house, initially dated 1692 (bearing the initials "IM" of the Murgatroyd family). It was entirely rebuilt and refronted in the late 19th or early 20th century in a Vernacular Revival Style, having been moved from its original site. The house is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with dressed quoins, and has a stone slate roof. It has a three-cell plan. The rear of the building retains 17th-century windows, all double-chamfered mullioned. The original first cell features a two-over-four-light stepped window and a four-light mullioned-and-transomed window above. A doorway is set within an eared architrave, with a dated lintel featuring a stressed keystone and cornice. The second cell has a four-light window, with two lights above. The third cell has a three-light window with a cross-window at mezzanine level to light the staircase; a doorway with tie-stone jambs and a chamfered surround; and a four-light mullioned-and-transomed window above. The building has coped gables with stacks and front-facing rainwater spouts. The rebuilt front displays three bays of double-chamfered mullioned-and-transomed windows: the outer bays have four lights to each floor, while the central bay has five. Doorways with shouldered architraves are set between each bay. A gable with kneelers, coping and an apex stone is situated over the third bay. The left-hand return has a 17th-century cross-window above a four-light window. The right-hand return displays a two-light window on each floor.
