Description

This is a row of twelve cottages, dating from about 1800 to 1820, situated on Allerton Road. The cottages are built of thin sandstone “bricks,” with a first-floor sill band. The eaves are punctuated by spaced “dentil” brackets, and the roofs are covered with stone slates. Most of the cottages feature three-light square mullion windows on both floors, although some have only two lights. Number 424 has a projecting gabled wing, with a saddlestone. The sill band continues around the corner of the projecting wing. This wing has two single-light, squared stone-framed windows; those on the ground floor are positioned on either side of a doorway, which has console brackets supporting a cornice hood.
