Description
The building consists of two portals to a mill, which is currently occupied by Systematic Glazing Services Installations Limited. The mill, known as Bank Top Mill, is one of the earliest worsted mills in Horton, dating from 1817. It underwent significant enlargement between 1860 and 1866, and the unaltered portals are dated 1864.
The large ashlar portals are positioned on either side of the set-back front of the mill. They feature chamfered quoins and archivolt archways, which are adorned with bearded head keystones and impost mouldings. The portals are topped with entablatures that have bracket cornices. Notably, the east portal is crowned by a large scroll, supported by a cornice, which features a blind plaque or cartouche surrounded by a wreath. The architects responsible for the enlargement of the mill and the design of the portals were Milnes and France.
