Description

This is a terrace of twenty-two workers’ houses, completed by 1857 in Saltaire. They were designed by Lockwood and Mawson for Titus Salt and form part of the wider Saltaire model village. The houses are constructed of hammer-dressed stone, with Welsh slate roofs. They are two storeys high, with each house featuring one bay, except for the end houses, which are slightly larger and project forward, boasting two bays. The end houses have a round-arched doorway and window, both archivolted. The ground floor windows are square-headed and sit on a sill band. The remaining houses each have a plain doorway and one window to each floor. Some houses have later inserted bathroom windows, while others have been rendered or painted. Wooden brackets support the guttering on the end houses. The buildings have hipped roofs. The return elevations to the end houses are two bays wide. The end houses are more architecturally significant due to their visual prominence relating to Caroline Street and Titus Street.
