Description
This building, located on School Green in Thornton, was constructed around 1830 as a single-story, three-bay school. It is built of sandstone with ashlar dressings and has a stone slate roof punctuated by spaced block brackets at the eaves. The gables feature corniced chimneys. The front of the building has two windows on each side, each with paired, narrow, segmental-headed lights featuring chamfered mullions. A doorway on the south front is set within a squared surround and topped with an ashlar lintel. The building is listed for its contribution to the wider group value of the area.
